Weekly Recap - Kiawah Half Marathon Training Week 1 (9/11-9/17)

And we're off. Officially into the fall training season and we're officially on week 101 of things not going as planned. And I've definitely got my work cut out for me, but I think I'm halfway ready (sort of).

As I struggled to get back into the swing of things after Hurricane Irma, I also dealt with the UTI from hell coming back with a vengeance. Apparently, the second antibiotic wasn't the right one. Now they think they've got me on the right one and put me on it for 10 days. I hope, hope, hope this does the trick. If you've ever had a UTI, you know they're miserable. Running with one is torture. Four weeks of trying to run with one is a special kind of hell.

So about my week...

On Monday, I took off because Irma was raging and even though we were in Charlotte to get away from the brunt of Irma, it was still freezing and really windy. Not the best run day. We came home on Tuesday, so between work and the long drive home to Charleston (7 hours for a trip that's normally about 3), I didn't have time or energy to get a workout in.

While I'm very thankful that our house weathered the storm (and so did our new home-in-progress), I'm sad for all of the devastation Irma left in her path, including the major flooding damage from storm surge in Charleston. And it looks like Hurricane Marie is firing up her engines now, too. Let's hope this one stays away. This hurricane season has been exhausting.

I had just one day of real peace from the nasty UTI last week (Friday) and it was a great run! I ran 5 easy miles at an 8:18 pace in spite of the raging humidity and dew point, which tells me I've made progress (when I'm well).

By Saturday, I was back to not feeling great and by Sunday, I knew I had to go back to the doctor when I couldn't run more than 5 steps without pain. Fingers crossed it's the last time for this issue.

Other than my first official training week being kind of a bust, it was a good week. They poured the foundation and started framing the first floor of our new house (yay, yay, yay!).

On Sunday, I got to see a friend from PA who was in SC visiting family and on Saturday, we took B to his first musical theatre show - The Little Mermaid, at Dock Street Theatre.

I had no idea how he would behave at the show, if he'd love it or hate it, but I know he loves Ariel, so I took a chance. And he loved it! Next up: The Nutcracker.

And that's my week. I sincerely hope that this illness nuttery is behind me after this round of meds and that my weekly recaps are more about running than about not running. I have goals for Kiawah, and time is up for dawdling (and sickness).

How was your week?
