Training Update: Marathon Training Weeks 1, 2, and 3(ish)

Marathon training season for the Savannah Rock 'n Roll Marathon on November 9 is officially underway and here's a quick update.

It's been a little bit of a rocky start since I was battling a sinus infection, asthma problems and a few scheduling issues these past few weeks, plus a migraine today when I planned to run 5-7 miles, but I guess I'm easing my way in, right? I've backed my mileage down to the mileage prescribed on my training, even though it's less than the mileage I've been typically running. This however, was unintentional due to the aforementioned issues, but as far as training, I'm not behind the schedule or anything at the moment. I do need to ramp it up next week though!

That "3(ish)" up there in the title is because I'm currently coaching runners (yes, coaching - more on that in a later post) for Thunder Road Marathon, but I'm running Savannah. These marathons are only one week apart, but my runners are on week 2, while I'm on week 3 (sort of...this coming week is catch-up week). The good news is, I've still been pretty good with cross-training, getting in some boot camps, Pure Barres, and standup paddleboarding in the past three weeks. The bad news is, I'm so not a morning person and getting up at 4:30 in the morning to run is not fun. But I'm doing my best to get it done and I'm glad for it when 5 p.m. rolls around and it's 95 degrees outside with 100% humidity and I've already completed my run for the day. The exception to that is Thursdays when I coach the tempo runs for my group in the evening (and sometimes Tuesdays since I'm the backup speedwork coach in the evenings as well).

So here's what a typical week will look like for me going forward (sinus infections, major schedule issues, and migraines aside):

Saturday: Long run (a.m.)
Sunday: Recovery run, cross-training/strength training (boot camp), and paddleboarding (Sundays are super active!)
Monday: Pure Barre and possible short run
Tuesday: Speedwork
Wednesday: Mid-week medium-long run or Boot camp
Thursday: Tempo run
Friday: Rest or easy run

Busy, but I'm hoping it will all pay off come November in Savannah!
