Weekly recap (5/29-6/4): Short and sweaty

I think I'm still spinning from the short week last week. While I loved having the extra day off, it put me behind with work projects and I tried to cram everything into that short week. (I was not successful, by the way.)

So this week, I'm still trying to get caught up, which is why the weekly blog post is coming out on Wednesday instead of Sunday or Monday.

Before I recap, here's a post you may have missed from last week:

Review: tasc Performance (plus a discount code!)

The short week not only knocked off my work schedule, but my workout schedule as well. I didn't get my usual Monday barre class in because I was out on a boat with friends (poor me, I know).

On Monday, I ran with Macy dog, so at least I got a workout in. We hit the trails near our house and she loved it! She mostly ran for 2 miles, but we did stop to walk a few times because of the heat. I'm hoping she'll be able to run the Reindeer Run 5K with me this December.

B on a boat

Post-run, we gathered up our stuff and headed out for some boat time. Boat time is always a good time.

Tuesday I did another easy run on the trails. It was so hot and gross, I couldn't imagine being out in the sun, so I opted for the shade of the trails. It was still hot and gross. Mission unsuccessful.

In the evening, we went mini golfing since we just couldn't fit it in over the weekend and B kept talking about wanting to go golfing, but had to decide between the pool and golf. He chose the pool over the weekend, but still kept talking about wanting to go golfing. He seems a bit confused on the course and plays golf more like it's hockey, by hey, he's having fun, so it's all good.

Tuesday Trails

B loves mini golf!

Wednesday I ran in the evening, which really wasn't any less hot or gross that running in the morning. But I did run with some new running friends! I recently started the Mt. Pleasant Moms Run This Town/She Runs This Town group, a local chapter of a national organization and we are planning on doing weekly pub runs on Wednesday.

There were four of us last week and after our run we grabbed some cold beers at a local bar. Sadly, I forgot to take pics, but I promise it happened even though there were no pictures.

All four of us lamented about how we really wanted to run with running groups but none of them are near our location in town and fighting to the other side of town (or worse, over the bridge to downtown Charleston) to get to running groups just isn't going to happen. It was nice to meet other moms who understood that perspective!

I have plans for this group - track Tuesdays, pub run Wednesdays, and Sunday Runday for long runs and half marathon training. And maybe the occasional Saturday bRUNch, although B has swimming lessons on Saturday mornings for the next two months, so those will be tough since I'll have to just get out and run, shower and get to the pool.

Thursday was a blazing hot track workout that I just did around my neighborhood, but I think I need to get myself to the track for these because I'm pretty sure I'd be faster on the smoother surface. I did 8x400s and hit my approximate pace target of 6:45 in spite of the 80 degree weather. Fun, fun.

Beach baby

Friday I did a barre class and was so happy for the stretching and muscle tension release! In the evening, we did a quick trip down to the beach to get some pictures for my tasc Performance post. As always, B had a blast! The water is so warm now, so no more freezing while swimming (not that B ever cared about that, but I definitely did!).

Saturday I had planned to do a 3 miler, but D wasn't home in the morning and I just didn't feel like running with the stroller. I put it off until later in the day, but I ended up skipping because I just wasn't feeling well. I'm not sure why or what was wrong, but I felt exhausted.

By Sunday, I was feeling okay and managed to get in a 7-miler on the trails again. This week, I need to get my butt off the trails and back on the road. I love the trails, but I miss being able to go faster out on the roads. My runs take so much longer out on the trails and sometimes, I just want to go run and be done. I tend to dawdle in the scenery on the trails. On the road, I just move.

And that was my week. Short, sweaty, and filled with summer activities.

How was your week?
