Friday Five: 5 goals for July
Well, next week I'm back to training regularly (I think - *knock on wood*) after a bit of a derailment in June (thanks, achilles and back). But before that, I had a good start in May with getting back to speedwork and running 5 times a week, so now it's time to rebuild my rebuilding (and accomplish a few other non-workout related things).
Right now I'm 6 months out from what I'm hoping will be my goal race for 2017, the Kiawah Half Marathon. But I have a lot of work to do to get there. So goals are my friend.
And outside of working out, I also have some personal goals (not related to running) I'd like to accomplish. Time flies and life is crazy, so I'm only setting a few (some of them related to my 2017 mind map). So here they are - the things I hope to accomplish in the next three weeks.
Admittedly, I have more to lose than 5 pounds after gaining a bit of weight during my non-training (because I continued to eat like I was training), but 5 pounds is a start especially since I'll be adding muscle this month, too. But any runner knows, you feel every single pound out there on the road and it's not fun to be lugging around more than necessary. Plus I just need to get back to a healthier weight for me.
Speaking of muscle - this is how I'll add it. I want to do at least 2 strength training classes at Journey every week in addition to weekly yin yoga maintenance and of course, 5 runs. Extra workouts are just that: extra. And they'll range from spinning to outdoor biking to paddleboarding and kayaking. Those are more variable based on my schedule, though, so I'm only setting goals around the must-haves (running, strength, recovery).
I've lived in this city, in this same house, for almost 4 years and it took me until last week to discover the kayak/paddleboard launch that's not tidal dependent and has deepwater access 2 miles up the road. Derp. Anyway, now that I've found it, we must use it regularly!
As part of my 2017 goals, I want to learn a few things - one of them being web development. I signed up for an online certificate course that includes both front end development and backend development. It's divided into 3 sections of 3 classes each with project milestones. I want to stay ahead and complete the first of the 3 sections this month.
I'm working on the website and the business plan for a new business I want to start, so hopefully those will be finished by the end of the month. Ideally, I'd like to launch the business in the fall, so I need my business (including marketing) plan and website finished.
This business has nothing to do with this blog and everything to do with what I do all day in my "real" job (software and product design). I have several business ideas planned to launch (because they all have very different target audiences) and over the course of 2017 and 2018, I want to roll them out as DBAs under one LLC. And no, I'm not quitting my day job right now, either. These all are purely side gigs that won't take a up a ton of my time (multiple income streams, and all that).
And with that, I'm off to work on some goals.
What do you hope to accomplish this month?
