Weekly recap: April 4-10, 2016
Some weeks we go all out and put our hearts and souls into everything. Other weeks, just breathing is an accomplishment. I had one of those just breathe weeks this past week, in both the literal and metaphorical sense.
*Spoiler alert since I haven't posted a full race recap yet*
I haven't fully recovered from last Saturday's asthma attack at the Cooper River Bridge Run. This is pretty similar to what happened to me last year at Skidaway, so I should have known to go to the doctor immediately and get extra medication beyond my normal ones. But stupidly, I waited. And suffered. I nearly passed out in hot yoga because I couldn't get air in and my one very short run last week was not fun at all. The good news is, because I ran such a crappy race with a pace very close to my current easy run pace, my legs felt just fine and I had no soreness from the race itself.

On a personal front, my week was also incredibly stressful. I typically don't get into too much detail on those kinds of things here, but I've said before that I've been dealing with some not nice people who have done some not nice things to me over the past few months and it's put a lot of pressure on me and my family. I've lost a lot of sleep and have been suffering from other health issues because of it.
I know we'll all pull through, but when you're in the midst of the storm, it's hard to remember that the sun will shine again. I got a small glimpse of the sun a little bit last week, and I had a whirlwind of positive activity, but my week ended up so packed that by Friday I just wanted to collapse and watch Grey's Anatomy on Netflix (don't judge me, this is the first time I've rewatched the series in its entirety - man, I miss the McDreamy/McSteamy days!).
I talked with my coach and we decided I needed a break. No running, just a lot of resting. And I went to the doctor today to get straightened out. I got shots, a round of steroids, some antibiotics to clear out a sinus infection, and we talked about additional asthma medicines (because two clearly isn't enough apparently). I just love the small fortune I spend on them every month, too. Next up - getting the allergies under control to nip the issues in the bud.
So I spent a week trying to catch my breath. I'm not entirely sure that I was successful yet, but I'm getting there. At least I have meds to help with the physical issues. And for the metaphorical ones? There's nothing quite like a little salt air therapy to clear the mind and refresh the spirit. It's a new week and the sun is attempting to shine, and that's something right?
