Into the Glimmer

For Charleston

There are so many emotions and thoughts running through my head right now. My heart hurts for my city, for the victims, for their families. My head doesn't understand why someone would commit such a vile act and admit to wanting to start a race war. I've cried tears of sorrow for my city and for the victims.

But at the same time, in the midst of the hurt, pain and anger, there is light. And I've cried tears of hope as I've seen this city's response. Charleston is rising up in the face of this horrific act of racism. Instead of violence, there are calls for peace. Instead of riots, there are prayer vigils.

And I am proud of this city that I call home. We won't be brought down by this. We'll show strength and be united. Because this beautiful city will not be broken by this senseless act of violence.

My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this unthinkable event.
